Tuesday's Children

On November 28th I had the distinct honor of working with a remarkable group of people in New York City.

Attended by members of Tuesday's Children and facilitated by Creative Insight coaches, the meeting, held at the Princeton Club in Manhattan, was one of the most inspiring I have ever been privileged to be a part of.

The gathering was convened by Tuesday's Children (a non-profit that provides events and innovative programs for families who have been impacted by 9/11). It was a reunion for the women (and one man) who have gone through their Creative Insights program - a remarkable, and innovative process that envelopes participants in a circle of care affording each individual the opportunity to reach their full potential today and for years to come.

I realized immediately that this was no ordinary gathering as I spoke with Susan, one of the Creative Insights grads who lost her husband in 9/11. "I used to come here with my husband (a Princeton alum)," she said. "This is the first time I have been here without him. I knew that the meeting would be here, but it didn't sink in until I arrived." Each participant had an equally moving story of the past to share, but through the support of Tuesday's Children and the work they have done with Creative Insights, each is more focused on the future - their hopes and dreams for themselves and, especially, for their children. "We are raising more compassionate children as a result of what has happened," one participant said. They all agreed. "We have an appreciation for the small things now," said another participant. More nods of agreement throughout the room.

Creative Insights is based on the work of Michael Ray, Stanford University, who attended the reunion providing additional information for the group and signing copies of his new book, "The Highest Goal: The Secret That Sustains You in Every Moment".

Crowley & Co. provided visual tools, world cafe process guidance and graphic recording in support of the day along side the extraordinary team of Creative Insights coaches, Julie Daley, Athena Katsaros, Eileen Lynch and Julia Romaine.

My heartfelt gratitude goes out to each of these remarkable women and to the participants from whom I have learned so much in a single day.

"Deirdre was terrific and helped deliver a very successful retreat for the Columbia University Student Services team.

She was a pleasure to work with and was able to familiarize herself with our world quite quickly. It was also a good opportunity to introduce some people to graphic facilitation and I suspect that some folks will reach out to Deirdre in the future, having experienced first-hand its benefits. It really made the retreat the success I hoped it would be."
