United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
In January 2007, Crowley & Co. was hired to work with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bangkok from our headquarters in Washington, DC.
The task was to work virtually with an internationally distributed team to design a large mural for use in a poster session at the "Knowledege Management for Development Conference" in Manila February 8-9, 2007.
UNDP Mural (Use the scrollbar to view the entire mural)
Who: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
What: A ten foot by three foot mural.
Time: One week.
Why: To support the UNDP staff in sharing their success story regarding the creation of "Communities of Practice" around the world both within the UN system and through partner organizations in developing countries.
How: Working through phone interviews with UNDP staff members in New York, Delhi, and Bangkok, Deirdre Crowley designed the mural around the key themes and elements inherent in UNDP's "Communities of Practice" initiative globally and with the UN Solution Exchange in India. The final layout was determined to support the networking success story that UNDP staff wanted to share with fellow "Knowledge Management for Development" practitioners.
Background: There are currently more than 5,300 members of UNDP's global "Communities of Practice" which have been established in the five priority areas of development: Poverty, Governance, Energy and Environment, HIV/AIDS, Conflict Prevention and Recovery, as well as for Gender Equality, Management and UN Coordination. An overwhelming majority of UNDP staff are actively participating in and benefiting from knowledge sharing initiatives and approaches.
